Important Update: Newcastle Football Withdrawal From Interdistrict Model

26 Feb by Megan Payne

Dear NLFC Members,

We wish to advise members that we have received correspondence from Newcastle Football (NF) after close of business yesterday, regarding their decision to withdraw from the Interdistrict competition model.

The key decision outlined by NF is that Newcastle Football will manage its competitions internally for U12s–O35s, with Newcastle-affiliated clubs competing against Newcastle clubs only from the 2026 season onward.

NF has also confirmed that the Zone Football League will continue in 2026 with Newcastle Football, Hunter Valley Football, Macquarie Football and Mid North Coast Football all participating, with further details to be communicated by Newcastle Football shortly.

In their letter, NF advised that this decision follows a period of review and discussion and cited the following reasons:

Ongoing concerns regarding shared zone governance and operational arrangements

Delays in reaching agreement on service terms and governance frameworks between zones

A desire for clearer accountability, transparency, and control over competition operations

The need to finalise rules, regulations, and competition draws ahead of the upcoming season

NF has indicated that this decision was not taken lightly and that they believe it is in the best interests of their affiliated clubs at this time.

We understand that members may have questions or concerns. Please feel free to forward these to feedback@newlambtonfcjuniors.org.au, and we will collate and direct them to Newcastle Football as appropriate.

We will provide further updates as additional information becomes available.

Kind regards,
Megan Payne
Secretary
